Welcome to the EthOS (ethnographic observation system) Pro App. This App accompanies the EthOS Consumer version which includes less functionality and is aimed at research respondents.
This App ‘talks’ to a project management web application also called EthOS. It is currently free to use. Please register here: https://beta2.ethosapp.com/ and use the same username and password to login with your App. Once you are logged in, your device and the web application will sync automatically
Here is some of the functionality you will find on the EthOS website now and over the course of the next few weeks:
•tag and theme clips on your iPhone App to allow both filtering and keyword searches
•comment on and rate clips, pictures, audio and text
•grant different permission levels to users such as ‘view on only’, ‘comment’ or even ‘add new entries’
•create work areas and invite selected colleagues to view selected events and collaboratively generate insights, etc.
•upload fresh content from mobile devices (and desktops) - availably in iTunes and Blackberry platform for free or $11.99 depending on level of sophistication required
•upload all associated material such as final debrief document, brief, related reports and the like
•depending on permissions, users may also download clips to insert to their own documents and reports
PLEASE NOTE USERNAME AND LOGIN ARE CASE SENSITIVE AND WILL NOT SYNC WITH THE WEB APPLICATION IF CAPS/LOWER CASE IS NOT IDENTICAL.
Those of you who already use the EverydayLives App will find enormous UI improvements. For example, you can now capture events and then attach projects and themes to them. Also, sending entries no longer happens via email. It syncs with the web application in the background.
Using the App
Once you login to your App, any projects you create on it will sync with the web application in the background. The same will happen only in reverse with projects created on the web Application.
Creating a project
Give your project a name and click on it to give a description, create themes (you can change the word, themes by clicking info and reconfiguring it) and selecting followers from your contact.
Creating an entry
Select an icon at the bottom of your screen to take a picture, photo, audio or create a text entry.
Sending an entry
Once you have captured an entry, click on the project the entry is for to select the theme or themes to tag your entry with. By pressing ‘send’ you will be given the option of sending no or later. Send later if you have captured video and wish to wait until you have access to WiFi.
Sending takes place in the background. And depending on the size of the file being sent, the entry and all associated information, such as geographic location and themes, will automatically appear on your web application.
However, if you have selected a follower or followers – colleagues who want to access your entries from their own devices or who have no access to the web application – then an email page will appear. Press send to share your entries.
Please note that the EthOS web application is free to use during the current introductory period. The web Application will become a fee paying subscription site but in the meantime we invite you to use it for free. Do run projects on it be assured that out data recovery strategy and security is world class.
Finally, once the web application becomes a fee-paying site, you will not lose any data. You will be given a generous time window to archive and remove your content if you do not wish to subscribe. And the App will work without the web application.
